GMT-----eight major traits:
1. With high specific strength and modulus
Density of GMT is in range of 1.05~1.25 which is some seventh of that of steel material; Its biggest tensile strength can be higher than 220 MPa; And its strength (strength/specific gravity) is far larger than that of steel material.
2. With high fatigued strength
GMT contains a high-performance glass fiber which enjoys sound fatigue strength, adding that the fine plasticity of basal body, which can eliminate or reduce the stress concentration. Interface between the glass fiber and basal body will also result in a rather winding and difficult of expanding route of cracks. Generally speaking, fatigue strength of common metal materials is only 30%~40% of tensile strength; While that of GMT can be as high as 90%.
3. Performance diversification
Thanks to it is a thermoplastic material, GMT can be added with superior performances such as antistatic, antiflaming and anti-aging through a modification.
4. Fine design ability
For GMT is a sort of thermoplastic material reinforced by glass fiber felt, its mechanical properties can enjoy a bigger freedom degree of design by changing the content of glass fiber, shape and compounding manner of glass fiber felt, through which to meet requirement of different customers.
5. Excellent vibration-reducing performances
High specific modulus of GMT can ensure a fairly high auto-oscillation ratio a difficult resonance on the contrary. Possessing a heterogeneous system, GMT enjoys a lot of composite interfaces of fiber and thermoplastic material and the interfaces play a reflecting and absorbing role, which can make the vibration attenuate rapidly. This kind of property guarantees that GMT can generate a fairly big distortion under a comparatively high stress level and further effectively absorb the impact energy when encountering an impact load.
